[The video feature flicks on but it's completely black and is silent for a minute. Perhaps it was done on accident. But wait, no, that's not the case. There's a man's voice, unidentifiable except to those who know him. Either way, he sounds unamused.]

A world where you collect animals and let them do the fighting for you. Seems cruel. Or perhaps you just don't see it that way. Using creatures to collect ridiculous badges. What good will it do you when you leave this place? If you leave this world.

[Itachi pauses, silence fills the moment.]

How many of you still continue your own physical training as you level up your creatures? Would you be capable of taking down your enemy without the aide of your Pokemon? Would you be satisfied if you couldn't? [Yes, Sasuke. Those last two questions were specifically aimed towards you.]

It also appears that the dead walk among us. [Does he know about the other shinobi or simply referring to himself -- hard to tell. Some might not even recognize him by voice alone. So finally he shifts it around to reveal his face. Itachi doesn't have the hitae-ai sitting upon his forehead like usual and his surroundings are hard to pinpoint. The maroon cloak he's wearing doesn't help as it covers the rest of his clothes.]

[He sighs as if this is all a big bother or an annoyance.] I suppose it's only polite to introduce myself. My name is Uchiha Itachi.

[Welp. He has this feeling that shit is about to go down.]

[Guess who forgets to lock the feed.

His eyes are wide and he's torn between the knee-jerk reaction of rage and... Well, something else that he can't even describe. He's not sure he wants to describe it either, only taking in the fact that he is there.]

[She's actually broken out her forehead protector for this, tying it on before turning on video.]

[She was going to give that a casual answer--yes some people still train though it's sometimes a surprise--but then...his name. Could this be--Sasuke's reaction gives it away but she has to be sure.]

Uchiha. Any relation to Sasuke Uchiha?

[ He hasn't heard of an Itachi, but he knows the name 'Uchiha'. Who wouldn't? So it seemed this place had people from Konoha too. He didn't care about Konoha-- as long as he wasn't bumping into anyone from Suna, he was good. ]

It's not too different from what you're used to.

[ Just testing to see if this Uchiha was from his world or not... If he was, he'd get the reference. War had always been a game, and they had always been pawns. Always-- until you did something about it. ]

It is kind of cruel, when you first look at it, but...it doesn't seem like they actually mind? I guess if there are people that are born to fight, then why shouldn't creatures be born to fight too? They're like partners in that case.

[She doesn't think she's making a lot of sense, she's not actually used to the idea of having something do the fighting for her either.]

I use a weapon for my fighting, so while I'm not sure if I can continue my training as usual here, I can at least keep in shape as best I can. [The "enemies" part makes her feel extra dubious though, does he mean the trainers or the Pokemon themselves? She wouldn't want to punch a Pokemon, that's incredibly cruel.]

Ah--I'm Maka Albarn. Are you new here, too, sir?

I think that depends on your definition of cruelty! After all, if this is their culture and they wish to participate in this manner, wouldn't it also be cruel to stop them doing it?

And yes! This place seems to revive people, which I can't say is particularly new for me anyway, so I don't mind it!

Cruelty depends on the person, I make no Pokemon fight who wishes not to. I train myself daily alongside my Pokemon, I could defeat my enemies. And sure, the badges are worthless back home, but I choose to live the life I have when I have it.

I'm Steve Rogers by the way. It's interesting to make your acquaintance.

[This guy... maybe it's because Yusuke's been on the receiving end of one too many Hannibal Lectures since he's been on as a Spirit Detective, but the speech this Uchiha guy delivers sets his teeth on edge a little. That attitude of being above it all, the stupid lighting (or lack thereof)... Yusuke thought he'd ditched these annoying enigmatic types when he found himself unceremoniously dumped in Happy Firehorse Land, but it looks there's really no gettin' away from 'em. He thinks that's more of a pity for them than it is for him.

So here, Itachi, have one more hero-type all up on your screen, responding to you in what would sound like a pretty chill, conversational voice, were it not for that underlining hardness in his tone. Looks like you touched a bit of a nerve!]

Y'know, it must get old, being the one asking all the questions. So here's one for you: do you actually care about these things, or are you just trying to get under people's skin and make yourself look good?

[That name... Give her a moment, OH!]

Hey, you got the same name as Sasuke. [Which it feels the most important thing right now.]

[Apollo feels vaguely irritated by Itachi's tone and words, but can't put his finger on why. So have a vaguely irritated-sounding 14-year-old, Itachi.]

I don't force any of the animals here to come with me or stay with me. I don't force them to fight, either. The only reason that I have any of the badges is because they wanted to challenge the gyms.

I train myself, and the Pokémon who are with me train themselves. They're trying to get stronger and I'm trying to get back to being able to do all of the things that I could before I came here. I can beat most Pokémon on my own if I have to, but I try not to need to.

Uchiha? I've met a few named that.

[That's not a really common name. At least he doesn't think so.]

I don't know if you really need to fight on your own. Everyone here battles with their own Pokémon. Though if I'd have to fight, I wouldn't stand a chance.

Of course I do. Now more than ever... Standing on the sidelines leaves you completely defenseless. And this place is downright deadly when it wants to be.

[And... Uchiha, huh? Riku won't mention he knows Sasuke just yet, but that's definitely got his attention. Hm...

Also, he looks older than the icons indicate-- 18 rather than 15.]

*See this smile, this smile is made of lies. She's sweet, upbeat, and all of it is a front because she doesn't like a thing you said. She doesn't like your tone, or your cryptic crypticness, which she is sure is a genetic thing. She also has three of those ridiculous badges, one as an earring, one on a chopstick in her hair, and the third on a bracelet on her hand as she pushes a stray strand of hair behind her ear.*

Is it any crueler than a world where children fight wars and die?

*She's not pulling punches huh, but she smiles it off and continues.*

I'm not sure what good it'll do when I leave, but it's an interesting enough thing right now. Which is enough for me to keep on battling. Winning badges has me satisfied, but I guess I'm a bit easy to please. I'm also not too focused on taking down enemies.
