One Necessary Lie ✧ Video

[The video feature flicks on but it's completely black and is silent for a minute. Perhaps it was done on accident. But wait, no, that's not the case. There's a man's voice, unidentifiable except to those who know him. Either way, he sounds unamused.]

A world where you collect animals and let them do the fighting for you. Seems cruel. Or perhaps you just don't see it that way. Using creatures to collect ridiculous badges. What good will it do you when you leave this place? If you leave this world.

[Itachi pauses, silence fills the moment.]

How many of you still continue your own physical training as you level up your creatures? Would you be capable of taking down your enemy without the aide of your Pokemon? Would you be satisfied if you couldn't? [Yes, Sasuke. Those last two questions were specifically aimed towards you.]

It also appears that the dead walk among us. [Does he know about the other shinobi or simply referring to himself -- hard to tell. Some might not even recognize him by voice alone. So finally he shifts it around to reveal his face. Itachi doesn't have the hitae-ai sitting upon his forehead like usual and his surroundings are hard to pinpoint. The maroon cloak he's wearing doesn't help as it covers the rest of his clothes.]

[He sighs as if this is all a big bother or an annoyance.] I suppose it's only polite to introduce myself. My name is Uchiha Itachi.

What do you mean it sounds like me? [Apparently he doesn't notice any trend]

[Allow him to point it out.] Every time I see you again, you've gained a good collection of abilities. Seems fitting for you to have gained a collection of Pokemon.

Don't they usually lead to one another? A cruel world makes cruel people, and cruel people make a world cruel. In my case it's the former, more than the latter... I think.

Anyway, it doesn't matter does it.

See... I'm not sure I believe that. If you didn't have something to say then why make the video thing in the first place? You had to have known people would try to talk to you.

But there's a slow smirk when he listens to the part about no one in Konoha strong enough to challenge him. His hands were still warm and tingly with the memory of the Saindaime's blood on them. ]

You could have challenged the Hokage.

[ But that smirk fades as soon as he hears about Akatsuki's goal. ]

...How droll. [ Sasori could not, for the life of him, picture himself joining a band of S-rank rouge nin for the sake of world dominance. Perhaps it was not world dominance per say; perhaps they'd had a plan. ]

But you joined because you were starved for a challenge. [ Odd. ]

[ He glances at whatever he sees behind Itachi, though it isn't much. He can't tell if it's familiar or not. Deciding to change the subject to current matters, he adds: ]

Are your Pokemon cooperative? [ Because he had problems with one pesky little fellow in his care. ]

Yes but the tend to tally some of their bad traits with the good, refusing to see the truth of the matter.

That entirely depends. Can a world be cruel if there is nothing to corrupt it?

The dramatic entrance. Seriously, are theater classes a prerequisite for being a shifty pain in the ass, or are guys like you just naturally over-the-top?

The only way Itachi could scream "villain" at him any louder would be if he unveiled some harebrained plan for the destruction of the universe. It's bad enough the dude has a cape, for fuck's sake. (Okay, so it's actually a cloak, but whatever. SAME DIFFERENCE.)

But all right, Itachi. If you're just curious, then how come you're trying to mess with peoples' heads? You can't just say "oh, I'm only curious" when you're goin' off on some dumb rant about how Pokemon battles are cruel and how this badge collecting thing is stupid. I mean, you could, but it's pretty easy to tell you're bullshitting.

[Yusuke may not be as into this Pokemon thing as some of the people here are - seriously, about the only reason why he's participating in it is because he figures he'd have too much time on his hands if he did otherwise - but like hell he's gonna put up with what he's perceiving as some snooty, sanctimonious weirdo trying to guilt-trip and get all superior at people just 'cause they're doing what they can to adapt to this damn place. It's one thing if you just don't get the appeal; it's another if you're acting like you're hot shit for it. What the hell was up with that sigh at the end, anyway? "Oh, I SUPPOSE I should give you my name." Yeah, as if anyone was even asking, freak show.

(To be fair, Yusuke might be acting a little hypocritical, here: after all, he still can't help but find the level of complacency amongst some of the people who've been here a really long time kind of alarming, and as for people who get here and are all excited about it right off the bat, yeah, he's not gonna pretend to understand them, either. But at least he's not going around telling them they shouldn't get invested in this Pokemon Master crap, and while, uh, technically Itachi isn't really doing that either, it's the dismissive, high-handed attitude he's putting on that's really chafing Yusuke's rear and leading him to think that Itachi's big speech is just one big guilt-trip. Taking all of this into consideration, it wouldn't be off-base to speculate that the root of Yusuke's ire has less to do with what Itachi's asking so much as it does with the way he's asking it. He's never been a huge fan of shady dudes questioning his motives, you see: after all, it's usually those types of guys that end up being the ones set on doing horrible shit to him or to people he knows.

[ He says nothing in response, only vaguely nodding. He wasn't sure which Hokage Itachi was talking about, and he decided not to push further.

Sasori does get a good view of the Growlithe in the background, though. ]

[ And, as if on cue, his Murkrow swoops over to land on his head, taking a few turns before it settled comfortably in his hair.

Apparently I am stuck with a thief. --Who is also a freeloader.

[ He isn't sure if that was a loving nip to the ear or a nip in admonishment for speaking out against the creature thus. ]
